How I Quit My Job
I’m not what anyone would call an ‘overnight success’. I struggled for YEARS to make a profit online.
I had a dream to work from home and I KNEW it was possible. There were these people all around me, in a networking forum I had joined, who WERE working from home and earning their income that way.
My first attempt at a real business was in 2002 right after my son was born. I started an eCommerce website selling homemade bath and body items, then I started an email newsletter, then I decided to sign up to sell Registered Educations Savings Plans.
As the years went on I got myself into a whole lot debt trying to build businesses that just weren’t working out and eventually realized I had to take a job.
My confidence had taken a huge hit because I couldn’t seem to figure out how to make it work. But, I still held onto that dream especially as I went daily to a job I absolutely HATED. I spent three years going to an afternoon-shift in this dark, stinky, factory and DREAMING about how I could quit.
I tried a network marketing business selling soy candles, but I ended up spending more every month buying candles from myself than I did actually selling them to other people.
Finally, in 2006, I heard a friend say she was quitting Virtual Assistance work and doing no more ‘hours for dollars’ work. What I thought to myself at that time was I’d LOVE to get hours for dollars doing things I love (build websites, write emails, create graphics and more) instead of the hours for dollars I was getting at a job that made me feel like a walking zombie!
So, In 2006 I started my Virtual Assistance business. Within nine months I quit that job and started working from home, finally!
I share this with you for a number of reasons:
1. I want you to know that if you’re struggling to find your way, I get it. I made plenty of mistakes. I struggled. I had people tell me to give it up and it was never going to work. Yet here I am all those years later, earning my living online.
2. To tell you that starting a service-based business is one of the BEST ways to break into this industry. You get an ‘insider look’ that you really can’t get as a customer or a client of someone. You get immediate cash and a lot of experience through doing.
3. To INVITE you to join me, industry leaders like Tawnya Sutherland, Lynn Terry, Alice Seba, Elayne Whitfield, Pam Ivey and more at the VA Virtuosos conference! It is the place to be if you are an aspiring, new or established service provider. You’ll learn about all aspects of running your business from getting started on a budget, profiting with packages, running your business even when life happens (my presentation) and so much more.
Hope to see you there!
